More than 80% of a Unibilt home is built by our own craftsmen on a controlled schedule, within our secure manufacturing plant environment, rather than at an open site. As a group, our experts have hundreds of years of proven on-the-job experience. Our average employee has been with the company for over 18 years. We provide scholarships to our employees’ children and invest in our region.

Our Founder
Unibilt was founded by Carl Scholz, a veteran of the home building business. In 1950 Carl opened a lumber yard in Vandalia, Ohio to service the postwar construction housing boom and quickly expanded into manufacturing of wall panels, roof trusses and pre-hung doors. Always looking for ways to create greater production efficiency, Carl’s 1969 entry into the developing modular home industry seemed to be a natural progression in his quest for more affordable, better designed and higher quality homes. Carl’s son, Doug Scholz, has been President of the company since 1975. Unibilt has been owned and operated by Doug and his wife Sharon for over 40 years.
