Carl had not only the original idea, but also the land and operations people needed to get the new venture up and running. The original plant was opened in what is now a Unibilt warehouse on Johnston Station Road, surrounded by woods, a bit of water and great interstate highway access.

The first year, 20 homes were sold to 12 builders at an average price of $11,241.00. Today, the company stock is owned by Doug Scholz (Carl’s son), Sharon Scholz and Gary Kaiser, a 38-year employee.
